Sitka Legacy Foundation grant cycle announcement

Sitka Legacy Foundation accepting grant applications beginning August 24, 2026

Sitka Legacy Foundation, an affiliate of The Alaska Community Foundation (ACF), is excited to announce that applications for our 2026 competitive grant cycle will open Monday, August 24, 2026. The deadline to apply is 5:00 PM AKDT, Monday, September 21, 2026. We are seeking grant applications from local nonprofits as well as Tribal and municipal entities and faith-based organizations.

Funding Priorities
We encourage applications for projects or programs that address the goals of the Sitka 2022-2027 Strategic Plan. Although the Plan was developed specifically as a guide for the City and Borough of Sitka, it reflects the concerns and interests of our community. The general goals stated in the plan could represent desired outcomes for any organization serving the Sitka area, including Port Alexander.

The five goals – edited for more general application – are as follows:

  • Quality of Life: Preserve the quality of life and the affordability for all residents.
  • Communication: Improve communications and strengthen relationships within the community and organization.
  • Sustainability: Align resources and financial and economic policies with Sitka’s goals for a sustainable community.
  • Infrastructure: Plan and invest in sustainable infrastructure for future generations.
  • Service: Support organizations that are recognized as being excellent service providers and great places to work.

Grant Award Information
Grant projects must be completed within one year of award and are subject to completing an online grant agreement signifying acceptance of the terms and conditions of the grant. With the addition of City funding, the maximum grant award has increased to $10,000, but average awards will likely range from $2,000 to $5,000.

Application Requirements & Deadline
Grant applications must be submitted by 5:00 PM AKST on Monday, September 21, 2026, using the ACF online grant application system. For the application to be considered, any overdue grant reports or other follow-ups for previous grant awards from SLF and/or ACF must also be submitted via the online grant system prior to the deadline.
