Emergency Response Fund Ready to Support Sitka in Times of Crisis

The Sitka Legacy Foundation (SLF) has established a dormant Emergency Response Fund to provide rapid support to our community during times of crisis. Held at The Alaska Community Foundation, this dormant fund will be activated in response to local natural or human-caused disasters such as landslides, fires, floods, or major service disruptions.

The fund is designed to support nonprofit and tribal organizations offering immediate relief, including shelter, food, medical aid, and communication tools. While the fund will not provide direct aid to individuals, it ensures that the organizations serving those affected have fast access to needed resources.

Requests for funding are simple: organizations submit a written explanation of their needs to SLF, and the SLF Advisory Board reviews and approves disbursements—typically within one to two weeks after approval.

When activated, donations to the fund allow SLF to quickly mobilize support where it’s most needed, relieving nonprofits from the added burden of fundraising during emergencies. Contributions ensure a more efficient and coordinated local response.
