Sea Mountain Golf Course was filled with energy, laughter, and the sound of new swings at this year’s Hook a Kid on Golf event in Sitka. Over two days, about 60 young people had the chance to learn the fundamentals of golf, practice skills, and enjoy the sport in a welcoming environment. For many participants, it was their very first introduction to the game—an opportunity to build confidence, try something new, and connect with mentors who share a love of golf.
This community event was supported by a $500 grant from Sitka Work & Rugged Gear Store, made possible through the Sitka Legacy Foundation’s local business matchmaker program. The matchmaker program pairs generous local businesses with community needs, encouraging philanthropy that strengthens Sitka. By stepping up to support youth recreation, Sitka Work & Rugged Gear Store helped ensure that Hook a Kid on Golf could provide high-quality instruction and experiences at no cost to families.

Programs like this highlight the power of local partnerships in creating lasting community impact. From sparking interest in a lifelong sport to teaching values of focus, patience, and perseverance, Hook a Kid on Golf gave Sitka youth more than just time on the green—it gave them memories and skills to carry forward.
